Kaoru Soeno: A View
April 6th - June 1st
Opening Reception April 6th, 6-9pm

Sabina Lee Gallery is pleased to present "A View" a solo exhibition by Tokyo-based artist KaoruSoeno.
Soeno's work focuses on bustling urban landscapes such as busy intersections, train stations and town squares. The public crowds are removed from the city and hung in isolation to be placed in a new context by the viewer. With melded shadows in black and white monotone, Soeno turns the large crowd of separate individuals into a connected form. Taken away from their errands, routines, and appointments, the familiarview of unfamiliar people gives an unspecified recognition of daily experience in the city.
"A View," Soeno's first exhibition in the U.S. and with Sabina Lee Gallery, will be a reconstruction of the crowd. The white space of the canvas will extend out to the white walls of the gallery, allowing visitors to participate with the subject. How the city is seen is how we are seen by the city. The perspective of "AView" is one that flows both ways.
Kaoru Soeno received her BFA from Tsuru University in 2006 and her MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School in 2008. She has displayed her work widely through solo exhibitions, group shows and art fairs in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
